    1952 Standard Trans Input Bearing

I believe you can access the throw out bearing and fork by removing the dust cover on the cast in bell housing. You may be able to tell where the noise is coming from by observing its operation from under the car with the cover off. To change it or the input shaft bearing on the transmission...

    66 Skylark Suspension Upgrade Help

I went the tubular uppers and lowers route with extended ball joints. The stock spindles are too short so the upper control arm slopes down toward the spindle. This causes the top of your tires to tip outboard when the suspension is compressed. A quick ratio steering box from a Jeep Cherokee...

1937 4 door sedan rear seat.

Well, I got the seat back out! The backside of the seat back is framed with wood. Looks like Oak or Ash 1x6’s. The top of the seat back was held in with 3 wood screws from the trunk side. Since I couldn’t get the trunk open, I couldn’t see that.

No, but I will. I’ll let you know how it goes.

1937 4 door sedan rear seat.

Right now I can’t get into the trunk. I lost the keys, but I’m working on that too. I’ve tried straight up but no luck. I’ve pulled the lower edge forward and lifted but that hasn’t worked either.

1937 4 door sedan rear seat.

Does anybody know how to remove the rear seat back? I got the bottom out and then removed 2 screws holding the lower edge of the seat back to the floor. No amount of manipulating has gotten the top edge of the seat back to let go. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks

    Steering Column

You are correct about putting a non-collapsable column in a car designed for a collapsible. The Riviera column I used was a collapsible so I must have gotten the year wrong. The basic chassis layout on all GM A-body’s from 1964 to 1981 are all more or less the same. Many parts are...

    Steering Column

Not on a 66 but I did it on a 68. I wanted tilt wheel and couldn’t find a 68 but came across a Riviera column, a 66 or 67 I think, that was the same length. I had to replace the under dash mounting plate on the column with the one from my Skylark and had to fabricate and weld on a shifter arm...

    Th350 vs th400 swap from st300

TCI makes a kit. It requires some minor rewiring inside the transmission. It blocks out the lock-up except when you are in 4th gear with highish manifold vacuum and provides for a kick out when you tap the brakes. My Skylark does not have cruise so I used a double pole brake light switch to...

    200R4

Sorry I made a mistake. I’m running a 2000 stall speed converter. My wheels are 17” Year One Magnums. 8” in front and 9” in the rear with Nitto 225-50ZR17’s in front and 255-45ZR17’s in the rear. My 2004R was built by PATC, I think they are in Louisiana, to their Predator specification. I...

    200R4

I don’t know about a ‘66 but when I did my 1968 I used the original cross member and just moved it rearward to the holes for a TH400 that were already in the frame. I use an 1800 stall speed converter behind a cammed 350 and 3.43 rear gears. I like it but I think I would have liked 3.64’s or...

    Th350 vs th400 swap from st300

You may want to consider a 2004R instead of the TH350. It is a close ratio transmission with a lock-up converter and overdrive. I put one in my ‘68 Skylark. Everything fit well, same driveshaft length but had to move the crossmember back to the TH400 position. The holes are already there...

    straight 8 vibration

The clutch pressure plate was balanced as part of the crank, flywheel and pressure plate assembly. If at some time in the past somebody removed the pressure plate and failed to index it properly when putting it back on a vibration would be possible.

    263 Bell housing removal

Oh Boy! I was afraid of that. This engine is out of the car and in an engine cradle that supports the engine on the motor mounts and the two flanges at the rear of the bell housing. That and the structure of the cradle will make pan removal problematic. This is going to be fun. Thanks for...

    263 Bell housing removal

I am trying to remove the bell housing from a '53 263 standard shift engine. I can't figure out how to get access to the two uppermost bolts. I've looked at the service manual on this site but its not clear to me how to get those two bolts out. It appears I need to get them from inside the...

    Dynamat

I used 2 boxes for my 68 Skylark ragtop. It took it all to do the floor pan all the way from the dash panel to the top well. I don't know what size boxes I got, but I got them from Summit Racing. Very pleased. The carpet even fit better after the installation of the Dynamat.

    Going from 350 2bbl to 4 bbl

Use TA Performance single plane. I’ve got one on my 350 and I like it a lot. The 350 seems to like more carburetor than it should. I’m running an electric choke 840 cfm Q-jet with no issues.
