1950 Dynaflow "Park" setting doesn't work

I just bought this car and the transmission "Park" setting doesn't work at all. Also, when I got the car there were no hydraulic brakes at all. Is it possible someone slammed it into Park when it would not stop otherwise and broke something in the transmission? If so, what would the fix be? Any advise or opinion would be appreciated. If you are mechanically inclined you can separate the enclosed drive shaft at the tail end of the transmission, pull the drive shaft tube back and remove the tale shaft cover (6 bolts, 6 inch diameter.) Then you can look right in there at the parking brake and move the lever manually to see how it works and why it is not working. Adjustments are in the 52 service manual in the resource section of this forum.

Thanks for you help and suggestions. I am mechanically inclined enough but I am at 85 not into crawling under the car and wrenching. Your response at least suggest I should not have to pull the transmission to fix it. Thanks again.

One of the problems with the DynaFlow is the strut for the locking mechanism falls out of place when the, IF I remember correctly, the rear band is out adjustment. It can be reached after you drop the trans. oil pan. It CAN be placed back into place, with some difficulty, it takes some care but you can get it into place once again. It will readily be apparent when you drop the pan & look in the area of the rear of the trans. on the left side.
In this case a chassis manual could be one of your best friends.
