Blown fuse??

There is a hot line going to an inline fuse for the radio.
This line is always hot..even with the key "OFF".
I was replacing the inline fuse holder and the wire touched
the metal dash...sparks flew...and wire is dead.
There does not appear to be a fuse in the block for this wire and I
need ideas on where to look for something blown.

Suggestions!!!!

Oh boy, not good. Unless you can physically trace the wire to its source of power which is most likely a tap off the fuse block your going to need a shop manual. Hopefully there's nothing in the way to prevent you from being able to trace it.

Is there anything not working in the car like the dome light, cigar lighter or brake lights? Check all your electrical functions if there's one not working it may be tapped off of that. Good luck.

Well at least theres no fusible links by the starter. In '64, the fuse panel was direct wired from the horn relay on the fender. With a hot wire to the headlamp switch. If theres a lighting short, a bi-metalic switch in the HL switch opens until it cools down. Everything else to the fuse block stays hot.Something to think about.... Bill

I have the shop manual but the picture of the fuse block is so
small, you cannot read it. Found one on the internet and it does
not show a fuse link.
Started the car and everything else seems to be working.
I have the dash open, so will start to trace the wire.
Needed to take the dash apart to get the radio out, and decided to
repair or replace old wiring. Also recalibrated all guages at the same time.

The 57 block is different. Thanks
