Edelbrock Intake Manifolds for 400.

Has anyone replaced the intake manifold on a 67 GS400 with an aftermarket (Edelbrock) and still have clearance for the Ram air Air cleaner?
 
It will be a problem if you are wanting to run the "Star Wars" air cleaner. The Star Wars air cleaner sits very close to the hood, slightly less than the height of the filler cap on the valve cover. Interesting bit of trivia! Verified by when I purchased my car (I am the 2nd owner) the original owner had twice added oil and left the filler cap on the air cleaner resulting in two scars from closing the hood!

I ran an Edelbrock for a couple of years on my car with some Edelbrock heads from Gessler. There was not enough clearance for the SW air cleaner so I purchased one that had a smaller filter element on each side an sat low over the air cleaner. I still had to lower the air cleaner to clear the hood. If you become interested in what it was, I can take a picture of it and post it.

I considered cutting the intake manifold for more clearance, I don't remember why I decided against it.

I am just a street performance level guy, and somewhat nostalgic, so I wanted my SW air cleaner back. My car now has OE cast iron heads reworked, OE intake, and the SW air cleaner.

Another lesson I learned is that headers for the OE GS400s are probably non existent, and the ones said to fit are designed for Specials and Skylarks which have had the BBs installed. What the difference? When you put a 400-455 in a Special or Skylark the aftermarket frame adapters lift the engine, (maybe 1/2") and move it back (maybe 3/4"). I bought a nice set of header from TA, they said may require some fitting. I found that to clear the steering gear I had to remove the flange and took out, I don't know now, maybe 1/2" and put it back on. Even then I had to dimple one tube to clear the steering gear! Then because I didn't look at the passenger side before starting the work, I found I had to notch the cross member. Nice set of headers sitting in my attic.
NO, I didn't give up, I called Poston who promised their headers would fit. I bought a nice set of chrome one, wow! The driver's side did fit, but the passenger side had the same problem. The Poston headers would have fit a converted Skylark or Special with no modes.
I just run manifolds with a 2 1/2" American Thunder and electric cut out. Simple and works well with non of the hassles headers can bring.

As I remember, Greg had 3 or 4 levels of porting. Level 1 was just a basic valve job. Level 2 was what I opted for with my TA Stage1SE heads. They flowed 313/225 @ .550

Thanks for the input. I assumed I was going the header route as well. Now I may have to rethink that. I appreciate the heads up.

The notch in the frame on the driver's side is not really a BIG deal, although I decided I didn't want to do it. As I remember it (BIG caution), if you marked the appropriate spot, I figured it would have to be finished to maybe an inch deep for lots of clearance. Cutting and fitting in a piece of pipe would look good. And if someone wanted to eliminate the scar at a later date it would not be hard to form a curved piece of metal to fit back in and clean it up nice.
