Edelhoser 800 CFM carb

Nope, just a street car, no slicks or sticky tires. I was wondering about the '64 8.2. Should be the same strenght as '65 when Buick put the 401 in the GS, that rear took the abuse back then.

Sorry about the absence Donnie! The whole faux pas on V8B kinda left a sour taste in my mouth; but thats my cross to bear LOL... I am running the OEM 3:23 Buick 8.2 open rear that came with the car with the V6. Other than a clean up, paint, and an oil change, I didnt see any useful purpose in swapping it out to a later style unit. Its smooth and quiet and works well (clutch-wise) with the Super T10. It doesnt even wince when I feed it 450 horses. Maybe one day Ill toss a posi carrier in it. Not much due to the 8.2, but with new springs and air shocks, theres not a hint of wheel hop. The Cooper radials dont smoke much, so fun at car shows isnt a dead give away that would be a cause to call the SWAT team out for some kid doing burn outs LOL.

Not so much racing anymore. Sissies with those "beefed up" 1.4 turbo yamagachi things wont even give me a glance. Since it doesnt take much to impress my own bad self, a nice hole shot and row some gears gets me off just fine. The 323 gear lends itself to great drivability as well. The BADLASS can take a 70 mph cruise all day long, and come home smiling! "Back in the day" the 70's GS's with 342s with the AC blowing took it pretty well also. Running stock motors back then, the only deal breaker was a missed gear and an over-rev making a trip back to the barn compulsory for a 7-8 rod bearing swap.

Trying to squeeze some time in to pull the intake and open up the plenum heat cross overs. Never shouldve listened to the dweebs across the hall about that. It takes me a good 1/2 hour of driving to get the manifold hot enough for street driving, plus right now is a NO-CHOKE situation and no fast idle, so I hafta nurse the motor for 20 minutes to get it to idle unattended.

I still say, keep that Buick car all Buick! Maybe a little retro-fitting, but thats all part of the hobby right? ABSOLUTELY no worse that putting that 455 OLDS motor in there. Anyone can toss the checkbook at the counter guy to get stuff done, but those are the ninnies that wear gas masks and rubber gloves while theyre driving... MOTOR ON! ws

Thanks for the info Bill. I was told long time ago, the '64 rear wasn't that strong. But now I differ on that thinking. I have a '69 3:23 posi complete rear out of a GS that has been sitting on the shop floor for over 10 years now. Hope the internals will fit into the '64, and put the 2:73's on the shelf.

The '64 to part way thru '67 rears were 1 inch narrower on each side than the later 8.2's. I believe the '69 rear would bolt right in, but then the wheel offset comes into play. I was emailing a rear end shop in Vancouver that does have a rebuild kit for the '64 and they said I could just switch out the ring and pinion from the '69 to the '64. Bearings are narrower in the '64 gear housing is all. They have done it before.
