feeling a little depressed

Hello, I have owned my 71 buick since 1989. When I purchased the car I believed it was a GS 455. It had the correct emblems and motor. I recently visited this site and to my dismay learned that my car is probably not original. The stamp on the body shows 43337FL1. This according the info on the website tells me this is a skylark L6. What the heck is a L6? Could it possibly come with a 455? My car has the GS hood. Is this right? Any help would be greatly appreciated. The stamp reads: st71 43337FL1 22190 4BDY TR 108 13 B PNT O6C. Engine codes: 4012323208 SR I believe this is for a 1970 455 4bbl right? Thank you for your help. Nate.

i'm no expert but it sounds like you got a gs clone to the best of my knowledge L6 is a in line 6 cylinder

Sorry, it does look like your car started life as a Skylark with in-line 6 cyl. Unfortunately there are individuals out there who will clone to a more desirable model, then sell without disclosing those facts to the buyer. When it comes to buying an old car, it's definitely "buyer beware". Take the time to id the car first, spend your money second.

I am really not as upset as I first lead on. My father bought this car for me when I was a freshman in high school. It was kind of cool having the fastest car in school. The part that is upsetting to me is justification for complete restoration. I don't think I want to dump that kind of money into the car since it is not original. What the hell, heck of a drag car for sundays anyway. Nate.

You can take this for what it's worth...

Myself, while of course I would prefer a numbers matching car, I would be more than happy to have a good clone. If it's done right there is little if any difference and with the price of some perfect cars going through the roof, can a clone for a fair price be all that bad?

Bob I totally agree. Just looking at the car you could never tell the difference. I have been fooling myself as well as folks at car shows for years. Thanks for the feedback guys. Nate.
