Hello everyone,
Although my father was a Buick-only owner all his life I've run through all the US brands as well as a few foreign ones. My last "old ride" was a 64 Plymouth Belvedere which I sold after having a stroke ( that's life! ) Having recovered about 80-90% I'm now looking at a less than 50K mile 71 Buick Skylark - two owners. Here are my questions:
- I understand that the 350ci , 2bbl engine was the start of the "smog " motors , had only about 8:1 compression from the factory, and was a nice grocery-getter but not much potential for any performance without some serious work. What would you recommend ?
- the 350 have a few issues from the factory - 1) needs an updated oiling system 2) if you convert to a 4 bbl , the 350 likes fuel so going with a 650cfm+ from the start is not a bad idea. What would you recommend ?
- from the TA Performance site, it appears that the 68-70 10 bolt was relatively strong, and did not have the c-clips like a chevelle. What about the 71 ? is it a c-clip rear, and if so, what would the recommendation be for installing a Posi ? Manufacturer ? This is going to be a cruise night car with "maybe" a trip down the 1/4 mile ... once a year at a nostalgia event ? Considering 3:42's ?
- Will likely go to dual exhausts. My thought was to start with the 1 5/8 headers . Any recommendations on brands ?
