ignition switch

Hello
I am french so sorry for my poor english !
I am the owner of a riviera 1966 and i have a problem with the ignition switch.

THis part is damaged and i have to change it.

- my switch is a 4 pins and it solds 5 pins !
The difference is the ground pin.

SO ???;)

THE GROUND pin is available for what using please ?
so can i connect one switch 5 in remplacement of my 4 pins switch ?
No problem ?

In START position, the GRD pin connects to the ignition switch body. The wire on the GRD pin connects to the engine overtemperature lamp. The GRD circuit tests the overtemperature lamp when starting the car.

The GRD pin and wiring is not needed on the Riviera. The Riviera is the only '66 Buick using a 4-pin ignition switch. It uses a temperature gauge instead of a lamp.

The other contacts operate the same for both switch types. See attached diagrams from the shop manual for more info.

Yes. The Riviera does not use the ground pin.

You will have to check the new switch against the old switch to confirm the mechanical fit in the dash is good.

i sawn that I can start the starter and raise the headlights when the ignition switch is on
