3 years ago I hot rodded my 48 special. 76 nova clip and rear,79 Buick 350 with a 400 trans. Sold my old straight 8 to a friend of mine . He built a intake and exhaust and put it in his rat truck.used a Chevy 3 speed out of a 51 car and even used my old rear end. We aren't really sure what the cab is .He is having a ball with this truck.... Just thought I'd share a couple of pictures with you.....

Certainly not true in my case. I think the truck is choice, and would like to hear more details about the mechanical setup. Particularly, how did your friend bolt the Chevy transmission to the engine, and how did he get the Buick torque tube to work with the Chevy trans? Also, what kind of car did those front wheels come off of?

As far as I know he just had to do a little drilling on the ears of the Chevy trans. to get it bolted on the Buick bell housing, even used Buick pressure plate and clutch. Buick 3 speeds have kinda a funky shifting set up that's why he went with Chevy so he could use a stick shift..As far as the torque tube set up I think he used the "bell" and the universal joint off the Chevy . I remember he told me it was almost a direct bolt on to the Buick tube. That torquie straight 8 ( it's the small one ) in that light weight truck with 4:11 gears ,,,,,it will smoke a tire for a quarter mile if you keep your foot in it !!!! If you notice in picture it has 2 different carbs. both stock to Buicks but one is a Carter and the other is a Rochester. Home made intake and exhaust with no baffeles. Sets there and idles at 500 rpm. going burp,burp,burp...He thinks the cab is an International but not sure.

Thank you for the info. As you pointed out, good floor shift conversions for the Buick transmissions are difficult to find, which is why I was interested in adapting a Chevy box.
