is there a place on the net or a book that will list the different buick tranny's and what they will fit, adapters for ones that won't, and how to identify them in the junk yard?
i am in the market for a 425 from a 66 model and i want the sp400, but i understand that some of the 400 don't have the s/p.
the other choice would be a chysler 4 spd auto out of a 60 something cuda..maybe like a 737 or whatever that model is.......I NEED BOOKS, INFORMATION, LIGHTS ACTION CAMERA!

The 65 and 66 Wildcat, Electra and Riviera will have the SP 400 trans you are after. There are no adapters available for the nailhead and any other automatic. The 64-66 nailhead fits the original equipment ST 300 and ST 400 that had a special bell housing cast to fit the nailhead. The 63 and earlier nailhead fit the Dynaflow trans. The ST 400 trans will have a tag on the rightr side identifying it as a ST 400. The serial # on the bottom of the tag will be preceeded by the trans model and year. Here you are looking for 65 or 66 as the year. In 65 the model # you are after is BJ, BR, BN, BQ, BS or BT, and in 66 the model # you want is BR, BT or BS. Good Luck.

thank you so much for your reply and the information, i have printed it and it will accompany me on my next junk yard visit.
by the way, i see that you have several 65/66 buicks in your stables.......would you consider a 99 year loan of one of the 425's resting at present under the merky recess's of that gs hood?
