Remove oil pan on 322

I am trying to remove the oil pan to replace the gasket. It will not drop down enough in the rear
to come out. I have removed the flywheel cover but still no luck. The steering arms are blocking a drop down.
I believe it needs to slide back but will not drop down enough.
What are my options??

1. Unbolt the oil pump and try to move it sideways...not sure if the starter would also have to come out
2. Remove the complete steering arm assembly
3. Jack the engine up

Does anyone have a "simple" solution?
This is on a 56 roadmaster with a 322 coupled to a dynaflow.

Thanks

I believe it may also be necessary to turn the engine to a certain location for rod clearances also. I think it may tell this in the shop manual but I don't remember . John

Just for future reference.
I disconnected the idler arm bracket and the pan dropped down.
My Roadmaster has dual exhaust, but those that have a crossover pipe,
it will also require removing.
