Wheel Tire Fitment 66 Special

It may not be fun to seat, but I expect it will mount.

This chart shows it as the smallest that should be mounted on an eight inch rim:

Sorry Bob, didn't make myself clear on this one.
The tires are mounted but not sure if there is clearance for the wheel/tire on my 66 Special.
Don't want to buy them and then find they won't fit the car.

I run a 235 on a 15X7, and they kind of fit, I had to roll the inside lip of the fender.
I expect they will not fit. They probably have 1/2" more backspacing which will mean they come out another 1/2" than the ones I am running if they were mounted with the same tires. Those are mounted with 215 which will narrow them. The only way to be sure is to try bolting them on.
Here is an old article which shows my mounting and clearance problem: http://buicks.net/shop/reference/wheel_well_mod.html

Waiting to find out the back spacing on the wheels from the guy before I pull the trigger.
I have about 2" of space between the sidewall and wheel well lip with my stock wheels and 205 70 14 tires that are on it now.
I could go ahead and get them and resell them if they don't clear. It's a good set of BFG TA's tires on aluminum 5 slots with center caps and lug nuts and they aren't unilugs!
I know I eventually could get my money back but 14 inch tires and wheels are slow to sell any more.

Ok, bringing back an old thread of mine.
Would a 14X7 wheel with 3.5 inch backspace mounted with 205/70/14 tires clear on my 66?
My son bought the wheels for his Ford and I showed him today that they are GM pattern.
He had the guy measure the pattern and show it to him but appeared neither knew the correct way to measure a lug pattern.LOL

Your original backspacing is probably 4", maybe a bit more, so you are moving the wheel out. There is a reasonable chance you may have to trim the lip inside the fender roll.

Wouldn't be the first car I ever rolled the lip on since I started working on cars!LOL
Wonder if going to a 60 series would work better.

The Buick Factory Rallye Wheel for a 65-66 was a 14 X 6, and it had 4 1/2" of BS. A 7" wheel will need 1/2" more, or 5" to center the wheel in the wheel well. I don't think your wheel is going to work.

Well, hand mounted one of the 205/70r14 tires on the wheel and put it on the right rear which was the one with the tire closest to the well and also the side that currently sags and took off through the park and around left and right corners harder than normal, over speed bumps and odd transitions onto the main road and had no rub at all! Looks to have about 1/4 inch clearance with the car bottomed out.
After I install the new rear springs and shocks should be just fine!
