Ok, my mechanical temp gauge doesn't work and buying one is impossible. Anyone able to find an aftermarket one that will fit the block hole. OR has anyone tried to convert to a 6V unit mounted in the heater hose or other location.. Thanks Rob

I have not done it, but a search shows that it is quite possible to do a dyi repair. If that seems too much, perhaps a repair/restoration service may be a way to go, or find a used one in working order.

There IS a DYI repair that's online with pics & instructions. I remember it not being that hard & the process was pretty simple relying on readily available products & some soldering skills.
Unfortunately I don't know when or where so you will have to do a search.

Yes I have installed an aftermarket mechanical gauge. I found one that came with multiple adapters and it installed in the engine block place of the old one. The downside is the gauge range is 280 degrees and it barely registers before it gets to the 175 degree range, but it does do the job. Mounted the readout below the dash.

Just a reminder if the sensor does not remove from the head easy a previous mechanic could have used to long a bolt on the rocker shaft mount and that bolt is holding the sensor in place . Try loosening that bolt.
