1971 Riviera Rear Vents

I just recently purchased my first Buick, a 1971 Riviera. I was surprised to see that the louvers on the rear deck are actually functional. However, does anyone have any advice on how to make sure water that enters the vents actually exits where it is supposed to. The trunk pan is pretty rusty and I wonder if water from these vents is entering the trunk....Thanks.

Ckeck your seal around the trunk, but usually, water entering the trunk comes from a bad rear window seal and leaking into the trunk via inside the rear shelf of the back seat
