67 GS 400-- Right Heads and Intakes?

67GS400

Newbie
Found a 67 GS 400 with what appears to be the correct engine block, but numbers on heads and intake manifold are for 69 430 engine.
Anybody have an idea why such a change would have been made?
Anybody know where correct heads and intake are available for a 1967 GS 400? According to Team Buick charts, the heads should be 11382720 and the intake manifolds 1374068.

Thanks,
Fred

430 "Big Port" heads is the most logical reason I can think of. They are know for their better flow characteristics

good idea, but backwards. "big port" heads were only supposed to be available in 1966 and 67. all 1969 castings are supposed to be "small port". also, the 1967 drivers side exh manifold is a one year only "big port" casting.

i suppose someone could have stolen them off of the 400 to use on the 430....

Learn to read the date codes that appear on almost all GM castings. I find them to be a real good indicator of weather or not parts have been changed. If you are not doing a 100 point restoration of the car I really don't see why it would matter if they were '67 vintage or not. If it's the performance your after then I would say that aftermarket aluminum heads would be a way better option.

67 heads are big ports and the intakes flow better as well. it is a big deal if 69 heads and intakes are installed because 69 heads are not big port heads and are prone to cracking. 67 exhaust manifolds are also better than the later versions.
