92 Riviera Stalling

Had a problem yesterday with my Riv. Pulled away from the curb, went
about 1/2 block & engine stalled/shut off. Turned over fine but not fire or
start. About 15 minutes later, started right off. Same thing happened about an hour later, slowed down to make right hand turn, engine again
shut down. Again, about 15-20 minutes later - started right up & ran normally. Any ideas what would cause this ?

There are many possibilities. First try unscrewing the gas cap. Vent may be plugged. Second check fuel filter on the gas line, and lastly, the filter sock in the tank itself. Sounds like the line is getting temporaily plugged.

In the event that it is not the filter I would suspect a weak fuel pump. When an electric motor starts getting weak it will initially run strong, after a short period of time it will rapidly get to hot and fail. If the car does this again and your in a position to do so you can see if you have any pressure at the fuel rail. some cars have a small valve like a tire stem that you can press on, there should be a significant amount of fuel spray, use a rag and only push the valve for a second, be very careful. Also you can take the main fuel line loose and run a hose from it to a fuel can, then remove the pump relay and jump +12 volts from the relay connector to the battery. Again there should be a large volume and a steady flow of fuel pumping out. If its a weak or spitting flow its probably the pump. BE VERY CAREFUL AND DO OUTSIDE

You need to check fuel pressure with a fuel presure gage ( 40 psi and up is needed to start the eng. ) you could have pressure of 25psi and the car will not start .
I would check the crankshaft sensor ( scan for codes ) based on how your car is doing ( has to set for 15-20 min. ) this was a common problem for stalling .... no start condition .
When the car stalls next time have some one crank the eng. and you test for spark at the coils and unplug one injector eletrical connector and test for voltage as eng. is being started .. if you have no spark and no fuel injector signal that is a good ind. that problem is cranksensor . HTH Good Luck

Thanks for your ideas. At least got some place to start - was thinking
fuel filter myself & gonna replace that & see what happens.
