Decoding a 47 Roadmaster

The new kid on the block needs some help. I ready to start restoring my Grandparents 47 Roadmaster. It's been in the family since it was 2 months old. I grew up in this car. I am experienced in doing projects but an old Buick is new territory
Trying to get my ducks in a row before I tear anything apart. Could use some help decoding the numbers.
I tried to use the Decoder in the Reference section. I read the instructions but never actually found the file.
As for the engine I understand the first digit identifies the series which is a 4 but the location of the numbers says it's a 320 so I am am confused. Would somebody help relieve my ignorance?
thanks,
Jesse

Welcome, Jesse.

The engine is indeed a 320, as all Roadmasters are. Pre war [ through 1942, ] the first digit did identify the Series. Postwar the identifier digit was changed to the LAST one. In your case the 7. So if you look at the reference tables again they will probably make more sense. Your engine looks to be about 131,745 from the end of 1947 production.

By the way, my wife was raised in Alamogordo. She still misses being there.
