Your Part washer chemicals

What do you use at home or from the shelf that is a good parts washer solution. I remember the tubs with re circulating fluids but do not know what the solution is. Got any ideas.
And we had a time getting the pistons out of our 340. Had to beat each one out 1 at a time. It was hard enough keeping the cyl walls safe and the journal safe but they fought us to the last one.

Cool but...

I am in Ocala Florida and do not have a space heater. How well does the kerosene work. It is available around here. Thanks for the reply. :shifter:

We have a local bulk petroleum dealer that will sell regular solvent by the gallon. You have to bring your own jug, usually a 5 gallon gas can works fine. You might look in your local yellow pages or ask a local repair shop where they get theirs. Regular parts washer solvent really works the best in my opinion. It doesn't readily evaporate and it's not too tough on your skin. It's not nearly as flammable as diesel or kerosene either.

Most Auto Machine shops have a mechanical jet washer that will take an engine and all accessories. They use a real hot solution and do a worth while job. The "old stuff" was caustic. It worked great in an agitated tank that was warmed up. It is now considered hazardous and enviromentally unfriendly:(

It reacted with aluminum, it would just dissappear and solder.
