    '57 Roadmaster 75 Help

My best friend has a 57 Roadmaster that has both front doors sagging, Additionally it looks as though even if the doors could be properly adjusted the body side mouldings still would not line up between body panels and door panels. I am trying to help him out but am much more familiar with my 64...

    Eating fuel pumps

I have a friend with a 57 Roadmaster, 364 Nailhead. In the 8 years he has had it, it has eaten 4 fuel pumps. He has finally given up and put an electric pump on. I have not been in on the repairs, but believe the pumps just quit pumping. Any ideas why he can't run with original equipment?

    Hood Insulation Adhesive

Thanks for the replies. Someone had installed insulation some time ago on my car and glued it. The present pieces did not fit very tight so it appeared that glue was needed. Some of them are starting to fall out. I will order new insulation and see how it fits.

    Hood Insulation Adhesive

I am preparing to order new hood insulation for my '64 Riv. Is there a specific adhesive to use or one that anyone can recommend? I live in Illinois, so ambient temps range from a possible +105 to -20.

air cleaner washer and wing nut

Thanks guy. I thought I remembered that from the olden days. Ever since I have had my 64 Riv, it has just had a wing nut on it. I removed the air cleaner to repaint it and apply new decals and I took notice of the dimples. When I saw them I new something was wrong.

    valve seals for 425 nailhead

I posted this question in another thread, but I think it is being missed..... so here goes. I ordered retrofit valve seals for my 425. It seems to be opinion that 425's never had valve seals but I found info suggesting this was a factory authorized retro to address oil consumption problems. I...

air cleaner washer and wing nut

I have a 1964 Riviera with a 425. I guess I'm being a little picky but isn't there supposed to be a washer under the wingnut that holds down the top cover of the air cleaner? There are dimples in the area immediately surrounding the bolt hole. It just seems there should be something more than a...

    Carter AFB 4bl Carb.

I received the new acc pump and installed it. The difference is obvious. Unfortunately it will probably be spring before I have the engine back together, but I am looking forward to putting it all together. Thanks to everyone for the good advice. :beers: PS. The choke wasn't closing all the way...

    Carter AFB 4bl Carb.

Lowvoltage, you are not pestering me. Since the weather has turned cold, I am concentrating on painting several components I have removed from the motor, inside. In between coats I am woking on the carb. The PB Blaster broke loose the screw holding the acc pump. Once removed I noticed the...

    Carter AFB 4bl Carb.

I did not actually plan on working on the carb right now. I have another thread going about nailhead lifter noise. I started digging into that problem and after I had the manifold removed with the carb, I started getting curious about the carb in between working on the lifter noise. Although I...

    Carter AFB 4bl Carb.

I have removed the top of the carb and filled the bowls with gas. I have covered the bowls to eliminate evaporation. I will check it tomorrow and on subsequent days to see if the gas is leaking through. I noticed the shaft for the accelerator pump is extremely loose in the opening it passes...

    Carter AFB 4bl Carb.

I have owned the car for four years. This has been a problem from day one for me. I drive the car at least once a week, April through October (roughly). Once started and warmed up for a couple minutes, it runs fine. If I put it in gear immediately upon starting it will stall, but other than...

    Carter AFB 4bl Carb.

Since I have the intake manifold and carb off of the car and do not expect to have it back together for a while, I cannot check the choke operation out at this time. Reading all the replies, I have decided to pull the top of the carb off and check for leakage from the bowl as jassbass suggested...

    Carter AFB 4bl Carb.

4speed, I have never smelled gas. That is why I have always thought the engine was starved for gas rather than flooded. My friend suggested that if the choke was stuck open it could take that many pumps to compensate. Frankly it seemed to me since the number of pumps increased with the length of...

    Carter AFB 4bl Carb.

I have this carb on a 425 Nailhead. If I let the car set for more than a couple days, I have to pump the heck out of the gas pedal to get it to finally fire. The longer it sets the more I have to pump; up to thirty times. It is like the gas has drained from the carb. I had heard somewhere that...

    Nailhead Lifter Noise

OK, I am very mechanical but not a car mechanic. I learn by doing. I have a '64 Riviera with a 425. I have lifter noise that shows up after I have driven several miles on the highway, shut it down, then restart. It is very pronounced until I drive very moderately and it gradually works itself...
