1964 Lesabre engine swap

Hello, I have a 1964 Lesabre that had a 300 ci in it, but is beyond my budget for repair. I have found a 1955 264 that was running not too long ago. My question is will the ‘55 264 bolt up to my ‘64 automatic transmission? The 264 had a 3 speed behind it so I also want to know if my 300 flex plate will bolt on to the 264? I hope that’s not too confusing. Any help will be greatly appreciated!

No, you are going to have to figure something else out. The Nailhead and 300 engine have different bellhousings that do not have the same bolt pattern. The earlier Nailheads (pre 57) have a different bell housing then the later Nailhead. The 300 engine has the BOP bell housing that is common the Buick 340, 350, 430 and 455 buick as well as the Buick V6. So a 340 or 350 would drop in place of the 300, but may shorten the life of the 300 trans.

if he's doing an engine swap, there's no point in keeping the ST-300.

those are weak, 2 speed transmissions which are heavier than a 3 speed TH-350.

better to just get the assembled engine / trans combination and install the whole thing together.

"easiest" swaps would probably be

Buick 350 + TH-350

turbo Buick 231 v6 + OD 200r4

although a 425 Nail + ST-400 ( switchpitch TH-400 ) from a 1964 Electra could be nice.
