58' special exhaust smell

The cab inside fills up w/exhaust smell. Where are some of the places that I need to look at to fix this problem? Also exhaust pipe shows black smoke from time to time- what is causing this?

Take it to the local muffler shop and have them check the exhaust for leaks. Black smoke sounds like rich fuel mixture?
