gas sucks

Here's a good one for you. My 81 LeSabre Equad has been syphoning the gas back to the tank and I cannot figure it out. At first I thought that it might be the filter in the carb, so I changed it.No difference.
Then I thought it might be a crack in pump diaphragm. Changed that and still the same thing. Anybody have any ideas?

Originally those year cars came with a fuel filter that had a anti drain back/check valve installed in it. It could be either the long or short style filters. If you look at the inlet of the filter you can see the check ball & spring. If it's not there have the auto parts store get you the correct filter & that mat just solve your problem. If the filter is correct or doesn't solve the problem & it has the 4bbl. Quadrajet carb. on it the fuel bowls could be leaking out past the lead plugs.
