hello. my 52 special straight 8 makes the hard rapping noise associated with lifters (so does my 63 chevy straight 6, and my friends 58 ford straight 6). i have read that this can also be caused by carbon buildup in the cylinders. there are many products on the market that claim to quiet noisy lifters reduce carbon buildup ect. i have also read that fuel and oil aditives with detergents can be bad for old cars because they free up a bunch of crap that just cause problems elsewhere. what is the general belief about oil and fuel additives and detergents with old cars? any suggestions on where to find info?
thanks,
