Hi, Judd,
Actually, If You are able to open the filter up properly, You will be able to clean it out with kerosene. Inside there is a Fibre Mesh Filter that sits in a Rubber "O" that sits inthe base which is the back or bottom section. When I tried to open it I punctured the Fibre Mesh Filter.
To properly open the filter. Spray the Seam and Center Bolt with Penetrating Oil. Loosen the Center Bolt and Remove. Freely Oil the Threads and Reinsert the Center Bolt and Hand Tighten leaving the head sticking up about a 1/2 inch.
Hold the fitting on the top peice firmly and gentley tap the head of the bolt with small hammer and the two peices should seperate.
I could not believe all the dirt inside the "O" ring was brittle and split in 1/2.
I bought a Glass Bowl Filter, but I still would like to have the Original Moraine in working order. I suppose I couldn't use the two together, not enough Fuel Pump Pressure 4 to 7 pounds.
Speaking of Fuel Pumps, How hard is it to Rebuilt a Double Action? I can get a kit for about 40 bucks with shipping and a Complete Rebuild for 90 dollars.
