So, I was finally able to time the car. Having done that, I prepared for a little test drive. I reved up the motor and bam! a loud rattle/bang and then the constant rattle/bang of something gone very, very wrong. I got out to see where the noise was coming from -- sounds like the driver's side of the engine -- and oil had sprayed out from under the oil cap on that side. The noise is constant and gets louder as you rev the engine. I didn't have time to take the rocker /valve cover off before it got dark, but I'm hoping the problem is just a stuck lifter or something -- not something worse like a busted rod (but the noise is fairly pronounced, so I'm fearing the worst).
Does this sound familiar to anyone of you folks? Have any ideas of places and things I need to begin checking?
I've been a soap opera unto myself this week.
Thanks for putting up with it.
