What color is the engine my 1950 Super Riviera with Dynaflow supposed to be. Is it supposed to be light blue with black accessories? Does anyone have any pictures for me to look at. Mine is all green which I think is wrong.

Does anyone have any good pictures showing the colors of everthing. In other words, what is supposed to be black. Is it gloss black? Also, there are words on the valve cover (Fireball etc). How should I paint that and how do I find out what the words should say. Are there spray masks or vinyl decals that I am supposed to use? Is there a company that I can send my valve cover to and have them do it for me?

My engine is green now with no decals or painted lettering. I was toying with the idea of removing everthing from the engine and attempting to paint it turquoise. Perhaps it is really not possible to paint the engine with out removing it from the car (will I just make it worse if I just try to clean it up and spray blue over the green)? Obviously I am not doing a total reso of this car yet. I want to start by just cleaning it up and getting it running. Then in a year or two I might start over and do a real resto.

That is a good picture Thanks. However, it leaves me a little confused because other valve cover lettering that I have seen was red I think.

Perhaps since I am just doing initial cleanup up of the car it does not really matter if it is exaclty correct.

look on ebay. the guy who sells the decals lists the years for which color. the 49-50 were the dark blue i think. my 49 engine is flat red and satin black with the black decal. i didnt go original.

pretty sure all the letters were decals, atleast in the fifties. But I dunno bout earlier on. it is possible that they were painted at one time. I decide to paint my 248ci eight maccoroni yellow so that if I ever ran without a hood it would surely show.

On another note I think the color of the lettering depended on the displacement and some say " Fireball" and some say "Dynaflash". so it varies. Also when I painted my motor I did not remove it b/c I have already taken it in and out about 5 times for various reasons, but I removed both front fenders and inner fenderwells. I wire brushed the heck out of the motor, and used solvent to clean it. If you are looking for a good picture of the engine do a search on google or some other search engine and there is an article with a picture of all three engines lined up and it describes each, it has great detail thats the main thing and a clear view of all three. I'll see if I can find it.
