Legally you can only use the same size motor from the same year or newer. But no one really checks. I have dropped a Chevy 350 in an 80 Monte an 83 Cutlass and an 82 Regal and loved it. Big difference from the V6. I don't know if you have to get your emissions tested every year to get licensed. If you do it probably won't pass. Not sure what they really check. Also the tranny might not bolt up. I had a unibolt th350 in the Regal and was fine. I replaced the tranny in the cutlass with a th350 that came with the motor. Not sure what tranny you have and really don't know much about them. I do know everyone does drop 350's in those kind of cars though. I also put on duel exhaust and didn't have converters. Very illegal. You will probably have to have a custom exhaust system made also. Good Luck.
