Hi,

I just purchased a 1970 Riviera GS and the
paint code on the body plate is (14). Which
suggests that this car is original "Silver Mist". This car is now an awful wine color.
All the riviera sites that I have visited say
that code (14) wasn't used on Riviera. I have a picture of the body plate and want to make sure that I paint this car its original color. If you have any information that might help me, it would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you for your time.

If your car has a paint code 14 on it than that is what it was painted, period. But just to be sure, sand away some of that "awful wine color" and see what is under it. I doubt very much that the original color was removed. There were cars made all the time that were not the "recommended" colors, if someone said "I want my car painted that color or I will just go to another dealer and buy it" you can bet your shorts the salesman go it done! Back then, MOST cars were still being custom ordered. Not like with the "instant gratification" of America today when you walk in an drive out. Back then, you ordered a car and waited six or eight weeks to go down with the family and "take delivery" of your new car. It was a very big deal to drive into your driveway with a new car.
