I thought I had submitted post already but couldn't find it.
original pump failed so I replaced it.
Pump #2 failed to manufacturer faulty shaft.the stores no longer carry their brand.
pump #3 failed remand ,bearing.
pump#4 failed new pump different brand also bearing.
Pump#5 purchased today new, different store different brand.
Any idea why so many pumps in2.5 years? I use prestone50/50. Other pulleys are fine.
if it matters... my belt routing does not require removing engine mount.

I'm no mechanic but my educated guesses would be that there is something in the coolant trac that's asphyxiating the coolant flow. My dad has a 2000 Tahoe (2 door 'sport' version, ha a sport Tahoe), anyway all the hoses from the outside looked fine but when his #1 cylinder fried he had to disconnect them to replace the motor. He found that one of the hoses was swollen almost shut on the inside but looked fine from the outside. The inside of the hose was mushy like goop to the touch and had closed so much you couldn't put a pinky in it. The restriction didn't allow that part of the motor to cool, fried the motor. and this is not a guy who neglects hoses, he is a 30+ heavy wreck mechanic and auto body worker. I'm thinking something similar could be the issue. Could also be cheap remanuf. water pumps and bad luck. Have heard of similar issues with heater core on this car. I have one and love it.

Have you checked or changed that little tiny L-shaped hose on the passanger top side of the motor that comes off the upper or lower intake ( i forget which one it is)? Its hidden right underneath where the pcv valve sits in the upper manifold.

Thanks.I'm also a mechanic. Seven years and counting.
that's why I'm asking about this problem.
I've never experienced so many pump failures in what I do.
I pretty much know what to look for.yes I have changed the
Intake heater hose. Im leaning towards belt tension or routing.
I have read that there are two ways to route the belt.
the first is around the engine mount. The second is the way it is now.
I'm wondering if buicks fix for not having to run the belt around the engine mount
Is causing bearing failure in the water pump. Still open for any ideas. Or maybe a reference to both routing diagrams.

I only know of one way to run this belt per the owners manual diagram. Can you replace the tensioner?

have you replaced the belt? do you specs have the tension in lbs?
do you have the hose recommended by the manual?

I would also check the hoses.

pull the plugs and take the radiator cap off. spin the engine to see if yu have water flow
(cold), put plugs back in and run it till it gets hot - watch for flow in radiator cap.

put cap back on tightly, run it and try to squeeze the hoses.

what kind of coolent are you running?
