455 engine hook color

Hi everyone,

On 455 engines there is a hook on the front passenger side of engine for lifting the engine, On original 455 Buick brochures it is red same color as the engine but those brochure pictures that are mostly drawings usually are not accurate. Those hooks have a black plastic/rubber coating on them. My question is when they left the production line the whole hook was painted in red with it`s black coating with the engine? or the black plastic/rubber coating was without color and black.

I hope somebody here be old enough to remember that.

Cheers!

I don't know the answer but think about the purpose. If it is red, it will move that forward in your view, and the rubber coating probably for stability when moving engine. You could investigate the color if it wipes off easily with solvent it probably came out of a spray can. If it is resistant to coming off, I will say it is factory paint. Factory will not be using paint out of an aerosol can.
