The brake light on my 84 riv does not shut off... Im guessing it has something to do with dirt in the lines and resivoir... I was gonna do a flush but I couldnt figure out how to remove the lines from thier connections to the brakes on the front and back wheels. Oh and what kind of brakes does the 84 riv have? drum or disc.. I heard somewhere that its disc on front and drum on back.. can anyone verify that for me? (it would help if I knew what to look for too... ) Anyways.. Suggestions... advice... instructions would all be welcome... Thanks!

I had a similar problem with my brake light in my 1991 Buick Century. I was told that it might have something to do with the brake light sensor. It so happened that my brake fluid was so low that it just caused the brake light to always stay on. So try checking your master cylinder first, it just might be that simple. And I believe you are correct, you have disc brakes in the front and drum brakes in the rear.

I have had this problem on my pickup. If I remember correctly, it required bleeding the brakes to get the switch to reset. Also, rear disc brakes are an option on your car.
Good luck,

You do NOT remove lines from anything to bleed brakes. Take the car to a qualified mechanic and have it checked. Brakes are not something for a novice to "play" with.

There are many reasons for a "brake" light to come on. Low fluid, or a pressure imbalance between front and rear are only 2 of them. Bleeding is rarely necessary unless you have replaced components in the system, or you let the master cyl get low on fluid. Air can not just appear like magic in the system.

The light is on for a reason, have it checked out. Otherwise, the next time you want to stop, you might not.
