I have a 97 lesabre limited with auto climate control. the problem i'm having is: after running the climate control for a while (30 min & up), when the car is turned off, and then started backup in a few minutes (5 to 15), the blower won't run. after leaving the blower off for a while (15 min or so), it comes back on, and repeats the cycle. i presumed this to be a relay for the blower, but i can't find the relay on the car. where is the relay located on the car, or am i barking up the wrong tree? could it be the blower motor?
Thanks.

On this model, no relay or resistors are used to control the blower speed as is done on conventional a/c systems. There is nothing in the shop manual about a thermal cutout switch or circuit breaker inside the blower motor housing. If the motor was overloading, a cutout would stop it from running without waiting for the car to be shut off.

A blower control module takes the place of the relay/dropping resistors and sends a variable output voltage to the blower motor. A control voltage output from the HVAC programmer feeds into the blower control module to command the desired speed.

The HVAC programmer will delay normal blower operation under certain conditons when restarting a car that has just been shut off. The delay should be no more than 30 seconds or so.

Can you make the blower start up during the 'dead time' by giving a manual command to change fan speed? Or by putting the unit in defrost mode?

Does the vacuum fluorescent information display ever flash on and off? If so, the a/c system has a fault present. A scan tool will be needed to read which fault is present.

There is a functional test procedure in the shop manual which I can forward on. Don't know if it will find the kind of intermittent problem present in your blower though.

Maybe it will turn out to be something easy like a loose connection.

TODD,

>Can you make the blower start up during >the 'dead time' by giving a manual command to >change fan speed? Or by putting the unit in >defrost mode?
Giving a manual command to change fan speed will not make the blower run. Haven't tried defrost yet.

>Does the vacuum fluorescent information display >ever flash on and off?
NO

I would appreciate that.

Thanks for replying to this post. I appreciate your help.
