Lost my spare key went to Lowe's and had one made. Unlocks the door fine turns the ignition fine but nothing starts.
I guess they came through with a chip that is in the key itself.

$60 at the dealer....

Anyone know of way to bypass that. Cut a wire, jump a wire, remove a fuse?

Generally speaking, there is going to be a ring where you insert the key. If it is in the steering column, then removing the covers gives you access to it. The ring detects the chip in the ring and sends back confirmation to start. Sometimes you can transfer an old, programmed chip to a new key to avoid programming.

As for bypassing it, would be necessary advanced level, you can't just wire something up on this type of vehicle. Security technology of 2003 on a Buick was also used on other vehicles because of its deterrent to theft. You must be thinking about the Kia vehicles that are so cheap, no security system is included, they are getting stolen.

By the way $60. for a key is a bargain, they are over $200. on some vehicles.

If you still have the original, see if holding it touching the copy, as you try to start, works. That's not a solution, but it would be interesting to see. Our 94 Caprice key has a visible chip, and a locksmith made a copy for it - $20, but several years ago. Maybe they have a way to copy yours, chip and all. Also, You Tubers are fountains of knowledge on "hacks" these days. And ... I saw a push button start kit (on line) that purported to bypass the security no-start thing, too. Best wishes for an economical solution - and finding the lost key, too.
