Ignition switch

I have just bought a '54 Super 8 to restore, but have been getting various comments about starter switch locations. Some say that the key ignition switch is the only starter switch, some say that there was a switch under the accelerator pedal. In my car, there is no switch under the gas pedal, but the ignition switch only has 3 positions - on, lock and off. I know it sounds silly, but I would like to know if there is a push button ignition somewhere that must be pressed once the key is in the on position, or if the ignition key is the only point of ignition?

Doug, I am not a 100% sure but it should be the same as 56+55,it should have a switch on the passenger of the carb(two wires) activating when the gas pedal is pressed almost to the floor(switch in ON position). One wire should have 12 volts any time switch is in ON position. If you need further help I can locate a wiring diagram to e-mail you.

Butch is correct. Turn the key to the "on" position, then depress the gas pedal.
