Steel wheel identification!

Hi!
I have these steel rims on my Buick Special 40 1940. But i think they are not the original or correct rims.
Can someone tell me what rims I have here? Construction year? Is it for Buick or Chevrolet or another Type? Which sort of hub caps can i take it for these?
Who knows these rims? 16" tires are mounted.

I don't know if I am going to be able to be any help at all on this, but it seems to me that mine had clips for the hubcaps to clip into place. Also, three pinstripes around the perimeter, with the middle pinstripe slightly wider than the outside two. So, this gives us some idea what it isn't... but not much as to what this particular wheel is supposed to fit. I believe the sixteen inch diameter to be correct for a series 40.

An awful lot of companies used a five on five pattern, so that isn't much help either. Perhaps there might be some stamping on the part of the rim hidden under the tire that might give you an idea what company might have used or manufactured it? Do you even care? If you are a restorer, you are going to want to find the correct ones... hot rodders might have a different opinion altogether.

I probably raised more questions than I provided answers. Maybe somebody else can chime in with more specific help.

Hello and thank you for your thoughts and advice. Everything is interesting and helpful to me. I am not an restorer or professionel. I am an beginner. ;o) My guess is that the rims are from the 1930's. My original hubcaps from 1940 are too big. The diameter and the inner edge of the hubcap do not match the rim or the clips. Update! Have found 4 hub caps which fits perfect on my old Buick. Now i am thinking that the steel wheel are from the Buick 40 from 1936 and the hub caps also. Right? Think it looks good on my patina Buick.
