Tail Panel attaching nuts

Removing the tail panel to repaint and the first attaching nut desintegrated when I turned it. Before I do that to the other 7, is there a replacement?

can you be more specific, there is very low reply on this forum specially if you are this ambiguous.

What detail would you like? I don't have a picture yet. The tail panel is attached with 8 nuts. As I tried to loosen the first one, it broke apart. They seem to be made of plastic and looked old. Where can I find replacements?

They are acorn threading nuts. Not sure of the size. I measured the stud at 1/4" and the nut at 7/16". Thanks.

just need to look for them. if you weren't oppose to a change you could put instead an aluminum riv-nut as a replacement to plastic. Put some shrink tubing on the nut, to seal up.

if you don't have the special tool to install. you can use a long piece of metal with a hole, hold it with vise grips, as you tighten down the bolt through this metal and riv nut, it squeezes down to clamp on to the sheet metal. Just look for individual riv nut/nut sert at hardware store at the bins section. Also, you could use any plastic type retainer. The acorn nuts are usually stainless, chrome and brass.

Marson M39313 Aluminum Klik Thread-Setter Kit with Inserts and M39300 Tool SAE

Metric Thread Setter kit 39203
contains 4mm, 5mm, 6mm, 8mm
I found in this kit that 10-32(threads) NP is equivalent to 0.8 x 5mm.

Thanks for your replies. Great idea on the shrink tubing. I think those Marson kits are too rich for my taste. Like you said, I'll keep looking for them. In the meantime, I ordered a set of thread cuttting nuts for $14 that will at least hold the panel in place. Cheers

They are called Pal nuts. They are stamped steel you need to measure the pin. They make all different sizes and types look for the acorn style that has a sealer so it doesn't hold water.
