Water temp bulb stuck in head

Spiderman

I've got a 53 Buick special with a straight 8, the factory temp gauge didn't work so I'm trying to get the original sending unit bulb out of the head. The fitting unscrewed and was broken flush with the fitting. The rest of the sending unit is corroded in the head. Any suggestions as how to remove it so I can replace with a fresh sending unit? Picture below ......

I found this out the hard way also. Remove the valve cover, you will see that the rear rocker arm support bolt is in perfect alignment with the temp sender and if someone installed too long a bolt it will hold the temp sensor in. Sorry for the bad news.

What suntree said!! Also, with that bolt removed if it is still stuck, something to help loosen it, such as rust remover, calcium remover, can now be introduced through the bolt hole directly onto the bulb. IF it comes out undamaged, there are those that rebuild them.

Thanks firstofeight, I finally was able to get the bulb out of the head. I was not able to save it though, but have a manual gauge hooked up and working so I now know the temp I'm running
