Door locks needed for a 52 Super Conv.

Wolfgang, I'm very glad to hear that you were able to find a source for parts that is much closer to your home and frees you from the hassles of international shipping and paying customs charges. Here's wishing you the very best as you continue with your project. Please keep us posted on...

Door locks needed for a 52 Super Conv.

Wolfgang, that's great news. Where and how did you get the new keys for your existing locks? Ray

Door locks needed for a 52 Super Conv.

If the new (used) locks come with a matching key, you should be fine. Thank you for clarifying that point. For the future, you might want to look for a locksmith who can cut a key from the code, even if it has to be done by mail order. It would be easy to find one here, but I am hoping you...

Door locks needed for a 52 Super Conv.

Do the lock cylinders which you removed from your car doors have the key code stamped on them? If yes, it sounds as if the locksmith is saying he does not know how to make a key from the stamped code. Is that correct? This is not a difficult job. If you have the code, you should be able to...

Door locks needed for a 52 Super Conv.

I'm not understanding what you mean by this. Are you saying that the locksmith does not have the correct key blank to fit your cylinders? This is unexpected, because US-made GM cars used the same key blank 1935-66. The 51 locks should fit your car. Do they come with the correct key? If...

    1953 Super Wheel Dimensions

The bolts are 9/16"-18. You can get them from RockAuto. http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/x,carcode,1320107,parttype,7680 The wheel center hole is about 3-7/16", which is larger than most other GM 5 on 5" wheels, and the non-Buick GM wheels I have seen didn't have the hole for the locating pin. Wolfgang, you are most welcome. Please post again and tell us how it works out for you This page may explain the key code system better. http://chevy.oldcarmanualproject.com/shop/1949_53/01body/1_45.HTM Don't worry about the manual being for Chevrolet. They same keying system was used on...

Door locks needed for a 52 Super Conv.

Your keys do not need to have the code stamped on them. A locksmith can derive the code by looking at the cuts on the key. Also, your present locks can be recoded to fit whatever key you want to use. The locksmith just has to replace the little wafers (tumblers) inside the lock with the...

Door locks needed for a 52 Super Conv.

Wolfgang, you may not need to replace any lock cylinders at all. Have your present keys ever worked in the door locks since you have owned the car? If not, it may be because those locks require a different key. Your easiest fix may be to remove those locks and read the key codes that are on...

Door locks needed for a 52 Super Conv.

It is possible that one or more of your locks has been replaced. Try removing one of the door locks. It should have a key code stamped on it and you can have a new key cut to match that number. Ray

    '51 Engine Paint Colors

AC oil filter blue is not the same as Chevy engine blue. If I had to guess, I would say the AC color is darker and has more red in it. The paint may be available from restoration parts suppliers, but I have never actually looked for it. Ray

    advance help

It sounds like you may have misinterpreted the purpose of some of the devices on your truck. The vacuum can on your distributor is for spark advance only and has nothing to do with the transmission. It should be connected to the carburetor or intake manifold. The vacuum can on your...

    advance help

In need of help here, too. What kind of truck - year, make and engine? What kind of transmission - the one with the plug-in? What kind of transmission - the one with the "vacuum advance"? Ray

need help with engine swap I have a buick super eight engine 248.

Ok, I think I understand now. Whatever you put on the front of the engine has to be compatible with the 51 pump. Thanks for explaining. Ray

need help with engine swap I have a buick super eight engine 248.

That isn't what I meant. What I was asking is, can you put everything from the 49 engine on the 51 engine? In other words, crankshaft pulley, water pump, fan, and even the generator if it makes a difference. Will that work, or is there some point I am missing? Ray
