    I believe it may also be necessary to turn the engine to a certain location for rod clearances also. I think it may tell this in the shop manual but I don't remember . John

    woodbox, I'm sorry but I don't buy into that explanation. It seems implausible that the transmission was designed to allow that to happen, accidents and litigation would have nipped that in the bud. You have me at a distinct dis-advantage because I don't have access to a dual path torn down...

    Item 1 and 2 is a linkage issue, whether internal or external. Item 3 is a given and to be expected.

    Just an educated guess but it has all the symptoms of a misadjusted shift linkage possibly exaggerated by some loose engine or trans mounts allowing movement when engine torques up. Try adjusting the shift linkage or disconnect linkage at the transmission and manually shift into each gear to...
