Fuel Gauge '69 Skylark

Fuel gauge in the Skylark is stuck on 'full' Any clues as to where I should start?

In another life, when I was fixing Holdens, the test to determine if it was gauge or sender was to disconnect the wire to the sender and earth it out.

If the gauge went to full, problem was the sender. GM interchangibilty being what it is
:hurray: I wonder if the same applies to the Buick?

Also, has any one intergated an electric temp gauge into the recess where the clock goes?
Not keen on idiot lights, and I'd like to keep the stock look.

First, check for a good ground wire connection from the sending unit in front of the tank. Those wires are usually in pretty poor condition if still intact at all.

I have not seen a recessed gauge in a 69 like you are saying, but I don't know why you couldn't do it. I am putting a tach in my clock area on my 72 convertible this weekend. Same thing only different.

Thanks again. Something to do this morning while Mrs Premier 350 is at church.
If you wouldn't mind, I'd like to see a pic of the finished installation.

I've done a couple of indash tachs & temp guages in another life.

Hey I was wondering what was the issue and how was it solved i’m having a similar issue.

Usually, that's because you aren't getting a good connection through the sender in the tank to ground.

Here's a short description of how it works:

If you can reach the wiring to your sender (the thing that goes in the tank)...if you ground the sender wire, does the needle go to "E"? If it does, your problem is either a bad ground (jump a ground wire from the sender to the frame to test) or a bad/broken sender. If grounding the wire doesn't show empty, then your sender wire from the gauge to the tank, or MAYBE the gauge itself (unlikely) is at fault.
