I have a '70 455 ,which is totally rebuild, installed in a '69 electra 225 and today i wanted to fire it up for the first time, building up oil pressure was not a problem, but when i wanted to start it, nothing happend because the fuelpump wasn't pumping I could feel some pressure differences when i took the fuel-line off and held my finger on the pump and let somebody start it, how is this possible everything is new, the camshaft the fuel pump and i could suck the fuel up with my mouth quite easily so why doesn't the pump suck the fuel up???

I have to start with the obvious questions.

Did you connect the fuel lines correctly (suction side vs. pressure side)?

Is there gas in the tank?

How do you know that the fuel pump is not working- where did you disconnect the line?

Bob, the problem is sorted out, the fuel lines where attached correctly, there was gas in the tank but since the carb, pressure line to the carb and the pump where empty the pump didn't work.
I had to install an electric pump before the mechanical pump to pump fuel to the carb and fill it up, when first started i let the electric pump running for a short while and then the mechanical pump did all the work when the electric one was shutt off, so it works fine now.
Thanks for your reaction.
