Now it only starts in PARK

Replaced ignition switch for 1971 Skylark, 350/automatic trans...
Now it only starts in PARK position....old switch would crank in both NEUTRAL and PARK positions...Any ideas? Is that what the neutral safety switch does?

How?
Or do I just replace?
I was able to start in Park and Neutral before
all my skylark drama
