can anyone help. the cruiser is down. i still need to know what engine the 67 lesabre has, see previous post. took it out today on a small cruise and had a problem. got into it getting on the hwy and had a large backfire with lots of black smoke, slowed down and the was a ticking noise coming from the pass. side v/c, you could feel it and the engine had a miss. sounded like a lifter or broken rocker arm, and the oil light was flashing at idle. ate lunch and headed back home on the hwy, once up to hwy speed, noise went away and engine smoothed out, about a 30 mile drive home. got home and noise was gone. went to car wash to clean off after trip and while waiting to get in oil light came on solid. washed car and engine and was stuck there for a while until engine dried out enough to get home. oil light was off????? got home and let idle in drive way to dry out, no oil light. as the ignition dried it smoothed out. took around block and it ran great, no miss and no oil light till i came to a stop and then oil light flickered. reved up and went out and stayed out all the way back. shut off and checked oil and was full. started back up and oil light on solid, bring rpm's up and light goes out, but lots of clatter noise. no gauges only lights. could this have been a lifter that was making noise? why is the oil light on solid now? i am going to put a gauge on it tomorrow and verify the low oil pressure. if it is low, what do i do???? can the oil pump loose prime, could it be bad, could the oil pick-up be plugging up???? i bought this car last sunday from a freind, it has been sitting since 99', and only has 43K on it. i changed the oil on it monday after i bought it and used 10w30 and there has been no problems until today, put about 300 miles on it. please help i want to get it back on the road, the conv. is still a long way off.
