Plug wires

just a dumb question. I currently have a 263 with 12V pertronix, NGK xr5 plugs .035" gap. running on original style solid core wires. the insulation is cracking and I have added a radio. fear EMI.
would going to a modern wire be an issue?

I don't think that will be a problem. I believe Pertronix recommends this.

ha, straight from Pertronix website.

You cannot use solid core (typically copper) spark plug wires with this product. Solid core wires do not suppress electro magnetic interference (EMI) which will interfere with electronics in this product. A suppression style or spiral wound spark plug wires must be used

Pertronix 12V plug wires

some notes from my emails with Pertronix. Andrew,

We have seen more and more failures because of the use ofsolid core wires.
So,as of the end of last year and of course this year. Engineering has said allunits need to be used with suppression core plug wires.
Andy,

We prefer wire with 800 ohm per foot or less. NormallyHEI type wire would be good.
