Power Steering for 55 Special Hellllllllp

Hi Everyone..

I'm a newbie to the board!!
I recently got a 55 special Riviera :hurray:
think is.. I'm looking to put power steering in it...
Do any of you know where I can find the parts? I've been searchin ebay for the past two weeks...and nothing..

I did come across a 57 caddy power steering box on ebay..says it should fit all gm cars in that era..
but i just wanted to get a few opinions for you all on here...

here is the link http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/e...50206775568&ssPageName=ADME:X:RTQ:MOTORS:1123

thanks!

from what ive seen the cadillacs are pretty out there from everything else, not 100% on that though... know of a complete 54 buick sitting in a salvage yard right now, planning on going there next week and will poke around to see how lazy GM was with their steering setups around that vintage :D would think a repro power box for a 55 chevy would be a closer match, think Jegs or Summit has them.

From what I know, the 55 steering boxes just interchange with the ones from the bigger series Super & Roadmaster.
For the pump, the ebay-guy is right: all 53-55 pumps from GM can be interchanged, but if you get a Chevy pump it cannot be from a truck, the Pontiac one is a different type (but works also), otherwise Buick, Caddy, Olds - you have the choice and will only find that they might have different reservoirs...

...or ask them for a whole set-up for your car: http://wheatbeltbuick.com/

Good luck !

...oh! ...ehm :clonk:...and although they do not list what you are looking for in their cataloque, they still might have it and a call surely is not wasted time:

I had my own 56 gear (bought at WHEATBELTBUICK's before) rebuilt there and service was excellent!:thumbsup::thumbsup:

power steering

Debbie Cakes,

I replaced the frame of my 52 buick super 2-door hardtop with the frame from a 96 fleetwood. I removed the pump and hoses (rubber cracked but fittings are there). The steering box, pitman arm and steering linkage are still on the frame, but I would be willing to sell the lot if you are interested.

I do not know if the pump and steering box are direct bolt-ons, but there are others here that may know. I do have the shop manual and if you are interested I can send you the part numbers to see if anything is interchangeable.

According to Hollander the only bolt on boxes are from '55 Buicks.:jeez:
Box numbers 5682316 and 5682318.

Hi,The best place I found for classic buick parts is Wheatbelt Antigue Auto in carrier, Ok. Ken Reeves will probably have your power steering set up their # is 580-855-2449

banjodon, have a nice day

I did manage to find a pump although it is a lil worn down, so I'm going to have to find a rebuild kit. I also found the box.. I'll just have to find out whatelse I need I guess...Doh..
