You may be able to just jerk the wheel loose after removing the nut, but I have never had any success that way. I made a puller by grinding off the edges of a couple of bolts that I ran through oversize holes in a piece of steel that laid accross the threaded end of the steering shaft (after the nut was off). The heads of the bolts were ground so they slipped through existing holes through the steering wheel. You only need to loosten the wheel, and it will pull off.
