Hello everyone,
My '55 Special is spartan.3 speed,no power accessories, not even a radio.I don't plan on adding much, but would like to have a radio.Have any of you ever hooked up an original radio?
Any suggestions on getting an antenna hooked up? I really don't look forward to drilling a hole in my drivers side fender where the antenna normally sits. Thanks for your anticipated responses.

On my 1955 Special the antenna is on the passenger side not the drivers side, check and be sure you have the right information about the drivers side.

The antenna wire is easy to run, once the hole is drilled, which is the hardest part. Consider one of the under dash antennas instead..

This company http://www.dakotadigital.com/shoptour.cfm
offers some under dash antennas if you are interested.

The wiring isn't that difficult for the radio though. Most radios come with a wiring diagram, and you should be able to run the basic wiring. this website

might also be able to help you with wiring diagrams and the such.

Hope this helps

Hi Iddie,

My husband Pancho has the following idea for you:
Bent up a bracket that mounds under the hood in between the gap of your fender and hood. You end up with a s-shaped bracket. As the flatbar is only about 3/8" thick the hood will freely move without touching the bracket. Topside of the s-shaped bracket will give you a base to mount your antenna on. Your coax cable will run down the same way as your bracket. No holes required. Any questions, just reply. Nicola

Hello nicola,
Thanks for the idea, but I've got to admit,I'll have to think about this for a while because I'm not very good at figuring out things I can't see.But then,I just might get my wife to show me :D .
