Lpg ??

What are everyone's thoughts on LPG (Liquid Petroleum Gas) (Might be named something else in the US) conversions ?? Petrol is becoming more and more expensive each day, and as a daily driver, I have crunched some figures and the conversion would pay for itself damn quick, but I am concerned about the performance. Has anyone done such a conversion ?? I would be interested to hear about the results....Thanks....

Hey Noel,
I just read a little about LPG. Sounds interesting. If you convert can you still use regular gas also? I read something about some production cars that use both. How widely available do you think it is? Might be a little harder to get sometimes. It's not like there's an LPG station on every corner.

You can run LPG and switch to gasoline with a converion kit . I have worked on buicks that had both . you loose a lot of trunk ( boot space ) space with the LPG tank in there. You will not want to park in a garage that is attached to your house ( Fire danger ) if you have a leak in your LPG tank (avg. size 300 lb. tank )
Hope this helps ans. some of your ??:beers:

LPG has a lower energy density then gasoline so if you just rework the intake the car will be down on power and mileage (see, there's always a reason why we aren't already using any of the 'alternative' fuels).

LPG has a much higher effective octane than gas though, so you could run much higher compression (quite a bit of work and expense and would make the car unuseable on gasoline) and/or advance your timing (very easy and no cost to you if you already have a timing light) and regain some of the power loss.

these conversions are much more common in Europe, you might want to check some Euro sites.
