Hi i have a 1970 buick skylark with a 350. The ring gear on the flywheel has 160 teeth. All the on line ring gears i can find for this car are 153 teeth. Has anyone run into this issue? Does anyone have any idea where i can get the correct ring gear to fit a manual trans flywheel for a 350

Small block Chevys use a 168 or older ones use a 153 tooth ring gear. Be careful what 350 you may be shopping for. When shopping on ebay and you search for Buick 350/whatever, you will get sbc parts marked "will fit Buick" when they are for a sbc only motor. This is because the sbc 350 was put in the Buick after the Buick 350 production was stopped. This can probably happen with other searches too.

Here are a couple on ebay that should fit.

Thanks but the car has a 4 speed mincie. Those flex plates are for automatics. I just need the ring gear. Any idea we're I can get just a 160 tooth ring gear?

If the ring gear is damaged by the starter, it is usually only on one side. You can heat it with an ox-acetelyne tourch and flip it over and have a brand new one:)

The original GM part no. of the ring gear is 1230924 according to some old Buick Master Parts Books. Usage was in the '69-73 Buick 350 with manual trans. Searching for availability under this no. did not turn up anything.

That no. was superceded by 1241867 around 10/75. GM discontinued the part about 1/82. Googling this part number showed some availability at vendors such as

www.mcleodautomotive.com

Several listings also appear on sites of foreign ring gear suppliers.

The 1230924 superceded an earlier no. 1359081 which was used on '64-67 Buick 225-300-340 with any type transmission. Availability under this number shows up on several sites catering to late '60s Jeep owners (Jeep put the Buick 225 V6 in CJ models for a few years around then).

All items show to have 160 teeth.

I'm hesitant sometimes to recommend older part numbers than the originals in case the older-design piece is not forward compatible with the needed number.
