2004R tranny # identification

Hi all. New to the forum. Love Buicks and Oldsmobiles. I am trying to identify this 2004R tranny core I bought. I belive it it be out of a 87 Grand National. On the top of the casing, very large 409 with a small X under the 4, and a large G under the 9. The tag on the rear side of the case is BR F Hydramatic. Serial #'s 181-871BRF-0701. Can any one help? Thank You.

You are correct, it is from an '87 GN .... it's a keeper.

fyi ..... While many people do go hunting for the 'BR' series trans - they aren't the only good performance TH200-4R out there.
The "F" designates a post 86 unit and was added to identify the trans family.
The BQ(tubo Buick), CQ & CZ(MonteCarloSS), KZ & OZ(442) units are just as good. Even the TA unit from an 1989 Firebird Turbo Trans-Am is considered the equal if not better for mounting behind a performance V-8.
These units have modifications done to the Valve bodys to allow for more clutch/band pressure and higher shift RPM's as well as some better internals.

I have a CZF that I'm putting behind a Buick 350 in a '67 Skylark.
